Entry #4 Planet Her

It has been almost four months since pop star, Doja Cat, has released her third studio album, Planet Her. I do not know about you, but I have been OBSESSED. Despite the album being out for a little under 4 months, it is already my most listened to album of this year. If I am being honest, Planet Her is already considered my favorite album of this year. Unless some artists decide to stop being stubborn and finally drop their long anticipated albums (I am looking at you, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, and SZA.)

From the intro to the outro, Doja’s delivery and energy in every song is just unmatched. The lyricism, the ad libs, the production, and her vocals create such a fun but high quality album. She plays with different voices and flows, going from emotional songs like “Been Like This” to upbeat rap like “Get Into It (Yuh)”. Although they are two completely different songs with completely different flows, emotions, and messages, they do not seem out of place being on the same album. This goes to show just how versatile she really is, being able to rap one second then hit high notes the other. Each song flows right after the other despite sounding completely different from each other, which I absolutely love. My biggest pet peeve is not being able to tell apart songs on the same album, Planet Her absolutely does not have that problem.

Another category she absolutely killed was lyricism. Her lyrics are not repetitive like most pop albums are. Her lyricism in some of her songs may not always have a deep message, but it is very intricate and flows together effortlessly, as well as making complete sense the entire time. I never heard any filler lyrics or random bars being thrown in just because it rhymes. A great example of this is in “Alone, she switches between rapping on the verses and vocals on the chores. Her rapping tells a story of her facing the fear of leaving her toxic relationship and being alone; while the chorus is her message to the toxic partner. In the song, “You Right,” she tells a story of conflict on whether or not to be faithful to her partner and the insecurities causing her to question her loyalty. Her lyrics are well written and allow you to feel the emotion put into them. Her hard work and dedication put into creating this album reflect greatly on the album as a whole.

This album will definitely be remembered as a classic, Doja Cat has proved herself as an artist as a whole. She is not someone to be overlooked or dismissed as a typical pop star. Her discography has been nothing short of great, I can’t wait to see just how much she explores and experiments with her upcoming work.

Comments

  1. She absolutely has been killing it this year and her fan base is still continuing to grow. It is impossible to go through tiktok without her songs being used in the background. I also need Kendrick to release more music because Family Ties is a banger and left me wanting more.

#9 And Now You Know

Have you ever taken a second to question where a majority of animal by-products come from? Have you ever questioned how those products get placed on the shelves of grocery markets? Taking a second to do a basic google search on how these products are produced would be beneficial, but since you are already here I will elaborate. The industrialization of farming has been quite possibly the worst thing that has ever come to farming. 99% of farming products like meat, dairy, produce, etc come from these kinds of farms. Why is it so bad? They take cheaper routes to make their products and use methods that are inhumane to animals and just shy of being lethal to humans. Dairy farming is one of the most guilty productions of this. They are extremely inhumane to their cows by injecting them with drugs that make them overproduce milk than what they naturally produce. These drugs then make their way into the products we consume daily. Another way they hurt humans is because of the poll...

#2 Five Years Later

"I like the color green, in every shade." uttered Frank Ocean in his monologue at the end of " LEMONHEAD " (2021) by Tyler, the Creator. To an outside listener, this was just the outro to a song on the latest Tyler album; however, anyone with awareness of Ocean's ghost status to social media and news outlets, knows that this is the first time in almost two years that his voice had made an appearance to streaming services. To a Frank Ocean stan, this was the part where we all started jumping up and down in excitement.     August 20th marked the five year anniversary of Ocean's critically acclaimed album Blonde . Since 2016, fans have been left with very few releases of singles and features from the artist. He rarely posts on social media and makes rare public appearances, leaving us fans begging for even an Instagram post.      January 2020, it was announced that Frank Ocean would be headlining Coachella along with Rage Aga...

#8 Still Over It

If your girlfriend has been listening to the new Summer Walker album Still Over It you better buy her some flowers. Chances are she gonna be mad at you even though your name isn’t London on Da Track. Summer Walker recently released her sequel album to Over It with Still Over It . This album is after her recent split with her producer and baby’s father, London On Da Track. This album had every girl wanting to know what London’s address is because we just want to “talk.” In Still Over It, Summer Walker rips London up for being an absent father and leaving her during her pregnancy and even calls him out by name for cheating on her. Summer really did NOT hold back at all and gave her a piece of her mind with her beautiful, soft vocals. Each song is full of lyrics and emotion showing she recognizes she deserved better and has been able to get past the heartbreak, but not without the last word. Some songs that stand out to me the most on this album are “ Unloyal ”, “ 4th Baby Ma...
